We are really happy to announce that we're taking part in Mystery Box Rally in 2024!!
Mystery Box Rally is one of the largest community lead fundraising events for Cancer Council in Australia having raised over $7 million in the last 11 years.
We both have been touched by cancer in our families and are looking forward to raising money for this worthy cause.
This rally will have us driving a car that is 25 years or older along outback roads. We will do approximately 2,500kms in 5 days. We set off from Airlie Beach & return to Airlie Beach 5 days later, each day in between is a mystery, we have no idea where we will be headed until just before departure the next morning.
The weapon of choice appropriately called ‘The Beast’ is a 1997 Ford Fairlane Ghia, which will be participating in its third rally. Thank you to co -owner Neli Ferguson and Scott Smith, specialist Ford mechanic, who both have donated time and resources to have the car ready to meet the challenging demands of the outback trails!
We have set a fundraising target of $5000 and every dollar raised goes to the Cancer Council. We will be covering all costs of the vehicle, accommodation (and insurances), etc personally. We would very much appreciate it if you could donate any sum to the cause and help fund cancer research and awareness. All donations over $2 are tax deductible and online donations into the WE GIVE fundraising page receive a tax receipt via email straight away.
Kind Regards,
Troy and Mark

Team: ‘The Kooks’*
((* Kooks is a surfing term - ‘A surfer who has an exaggerated perception of their surf skills. Their lack of surf knowledge, especially concerning surf ethics, usually interferes with other surfers ’fun in the water’. This was one of Chris Gormans (Troy’s Brother) favourite sources of entertainment (and frustration), as a Stand up Paddleboarder, when he met these characters on the water and we will be fairly likely to carry on this fine tradition! Chris passed away from Kidney Cancer in October 2020 and is the inspiration for participation in this event)).
Mystery Box Rally is a 5-day challenge like no other. Participants drive 25+ year old cars along a mystery route, through some of Australia’s most stunning (and often rugged) landscapes, all in support of cancer research. It’s not a race—it’s a challenge and more importantly, a celebration of the power of community.
Yes, the cars break down, and yes, there are plenty of unexpected twists along the way, but that’s all part of the fun. The rally is designed to be a colourful and unpredictable experience, where teams travel in small groups, helping each other along the way. And when the day’s drive ends, we gather around the campfire, share stories, and reflect on the day’s achievements.
This event brings together people who have been impacted by cancer in different ways—whether it's through their own battles or through loved ones. Together we’ll make memories that last a lifetime while supporting the fight against cancer.
Founded in 2009, Box Rallies has raised well over $50 million for cancer research with our chosen beneficiary being Cancer Council.
We are proud to be the funder of national cancer research projects after the Australian Government. These enormous funds raised go towards vital cancer research projects.
Thanks to the community funds raised such as Mystery Box Rally we can fund world-class research that reduces the impact of cancer for everyone.
